Traffic Jam
Traffic jam is a situation in which a long queue or vehicles on a road has stopped moving or is moving very slowly. Actually, it is a great problem and nuisance for the modern society. The causes of traffic jam are many. For instance, unplanned and narrow roads are mostly responsible for traffic jam in our cities. The licensed and the unlicensed vehicles are increasing day by day, but our roads are not increasing accordingly. Many vehicles moving on the same road at the same time cause traffic jam. Moreover, slow moving vehicles like rickshaws often cause traffic jam. Often, the drivers are indifferent to the traffic rules. They try to get more passengers stopping their buses here. and there. Besides, our traffic polices are not sincere and well trained. The number of traffic police  is also insufficient. All these things together cause  traffic jam. Traffic jam kills our valuable time. The  office-goers and the students are the worst sufferers of  it. It makes us helpless at the time of emergency. It  causes great sufferings to the ambulances carrying  dying patients and the fire brigade vehicles. However,  this problem can be reduced by adopting some  measures. For this, well-planned spacious roads should  be constructed. Exemplary punishment should be given  to the drivers who violate traffic rules. Above all, the  traffic authority should be more active to enforce  traffic rules and maintain the discipline on the roads.  Fortunately, our government has taken some steps to  minimise traffic jam. It has already constructed a  number of flyovers and some others are under  construction. It has also planned to introduce metrorail to solve this problem.

A Traffic Jam I Experienced
'Traffic jam' has become one of the mostly used buzzwords in recent days. Traffic jam means a long queue of vehicles on a road. The city dwellers very often become the victims of this nuisance, Traffic jam creates lots of problems and sufferings to the people, especially to the dwellers of a megacity like Dhaka. It has become a part and parcel of the people living in Dhaka. As a dweller of Dhaka City I am also a sufferer of traffic jam. Very often I experience traffic jam on the both ways, while I go to my school and when I return home. But once I faced the most terrible traffic jam in my life. It was a rainy day and it was a Thursday afternoon. My school broke at 4.30 p.m. and I got into a bus as I usually do every day. My school is at Kakrail and my residence is on Badda Link road. It took me two and a half hours to get on and fly over the Shantinagar-Malibagh Flyover. I am very much accustomed to traffic jam as I face it more or less everyday but that one was the most terrific traffic jam in my life. I started my journey at about 4.40 p.m. and I got down from the bus at about 7.30 p.m. I always enjoy the rainy day.s but I hardly could tolerate the rain of that day, let alone enjoy it.  Every minute seemed to be an hour and every hour a day to me. I only got relief when I got down from the bus.
